What is might?

Pronunciation: mīt
imp. 1. imp. of May.
n. 1. Force or power of any kind, whether of body or mind; energy or intensity of purpose, feeling, or action; means or resources to effect an object; strength; force; power; ability; capacity.
What so strong,
But wanting rest, will also want of might?
- Spenser.

I don't know why I love to look in depth at the definition of a word but there is almost an art about it in my perspective.  When you think of might it conjures up many images.  Most of them visual.  The strongest man in the world.  Playing tug of war with a large group of friends.  Trying....emphasis on trying, for me anyways, to do a pull up.  But the kind of might for my life and my boys has had quite a different look to it.  Watching a Dad carry his son on his shoulders and with all your might holding back an innner cry for your own father to do the same with you.   Asking every kid on the playground if they have a Dad and thinking that your are the only one who does not have one at home.  Going from boy to Man and just wishing you had your fathers perspective on the manly things of life.  So in our family might has never been about physical strength but inner strength.  An inner strength that sometimes you just can't put words to or actually it just hurts too much just to try.  For me it has also been about spiritual strength.  I have raised 3 boys/men in a loving christian home but that does not really mean anything.  God's might above all else means the most.  His presense in our home even when looking from the outside and inside it does not look like He is there He was.  The might of faith to surpass anything visually you could see.  That amazing might of God that truly does surpass everything while we reside in this temporary place.  Living in this world is not all to life.  Living in the world striving to know with all your might about everlasting life should be all of life.  So when you think of might dig deeper....with all your might!

Pressing In

Today I watched the might of a 13 year old boy press in.  Press in for something that most can accomplish with great ease.  Press in for something that most would say he is just being lazy.  Press in for something that brings a tremendous amount of pain.

Getting up and going to school.

He has been struggling a battle since the 4th grade.  This battle has taken many shapes.  It took the shape of suspensions from school and the loss of friends.  Feeling of frustration and complete worthlessness.  To smoking cigarettes to feel closer to his dad that smoked and attempting to medicate himself in potentially harmful ways to deaden the pain.  To the reality of the shape of anxiety, ADHD and depression.   I look back now and see all the signs and try to figure out why I could not find help even though I looked to God and those around me.  Here I am again trying to find help and looking again to God and those around me cause I just won't give up.  I am here to tell you though it is hard not to just give up.  I can see that from a kids perspective this would be even harder.  It is a battle that truly does belong to the Lord but you have to go along for the ride.  So today we can be thankful for the pressing in to go to school.  Even though you think you are a dumb ass and others have actually called you that.  Not wanting teachers to help you cause it just seems easier and much less painful to just not do the work.

We take today as 1 victory in the name of the Lord that he is at school.  Lord continue to guide our steps and be by our side through this - of life! Amen
